Parents have been demanding schools to set up air purifiers in classrooms so that their children can be protected from the city's air pollution. School authorities however have determined they're 'not necessary'.
In fact, Ding Li, director of the commission's sport, health and arts department stated that "the installation of air cleaners will not be very effective."
The Shanghai Education Commission mentioned two problems: one being that the purifiers used in homes were too small, and two being that industrial air cleaners (ones used mainly in factories) were too loud and noisy.
Sounds like blowing smoke to us...
