We hold training throughout the term so we can't really do much more! We are planning to extend the programme to girls and are looking to extend our coaching to enable others to participate at weekends for example so we want to build on our solid foundation
What has the reaction been from students to the program?
They have loved it and work extremely hard
Has it been difficult holding the program during such hot Shanghai days?
The weather is fine so long as we get the participants to drink enough water and we structure the sessions so that swimming becomes part of the programme too, that helps cool them down!
What has been the highlight of the Summer Program?
The enjoyment of the participants and the friendships formed and social skills learned
Where do you see it heading in the future?
We hope to produce a professional player that may one day play for Stoke City, but the most important is to produce better players who understand the game more and who will support Stoke City for life!
How much does the camp cost?
The camp was 3000 for a week 5000 for two but the academy runs throughout the terms for those selected from the school
What do you think kids will get from it?
A sense of teamwork, fitness, enjoyment, social skills, friendship, leadership and an understanding of the game. Students from the school are flying to the UK in August to take part in a development squad course at Stoke City. We hope that they will continue to learn, but they will get the chance to see the first team play and train and even meet a couple of players if they are lucky!
