We still have one more day before the extended four-day holiday ends, but Shanghai has already proven to be more popular than ever. In the past few days, millions of tourists have flocked to the city's major tourist attractions, reports Shine.
Of course, the Bund is wildly popular among visitors. By welcoming 240,000 tourists on May 1 and 227,000 tourists on May 2, the Bund received 40 percent more tourists compared to last year.

The police in Huangpu District dispatched approximately 1,800 security guards and multiple drones to monitor and cope with the crowds. The entrances and exits to the Bund were restricted as well.

Lujiazui of Pudong New Area received 260,000 visitors in just one day. To illustrate how crowded the area is, over 300 pedestrians passed through one crosswalk during a 30-second green light. To maintain order, police set up extra railings to restrict the flow of tourists.

Shanghai's suburban areas were pretty crowed too. Zhujiajiao water town received a record-breaking 83,000 tourists yesterday. It was so packed with people that visitors could barely move. To avoid safety risks, authorities were forced to close the entrance temporarily.

While the city was quite literally taken over by tourists, many residents of Shanghai opted to visit cities in neighboring provinces for an escape. Suzhou, Wuxi and Hangzhou were among the top choices. That being said, traffic congestion was a nightmare – which is no surprise. According to The Paper, it took one tourist a whopping seven hours to reach Hangzhou from Shanghai. The drive usually takes 2.5 hours.

Per usual, netizens couldn't help but complain about the holiday crowds.
"You would regret if you spent all four days staying at home," said one on The Paper. "However, you would regret even more if you head out."
"After going out during this holiday I start to understand what Thanos feels," one Weibo user said in reference to the Marvel supervillain.
