Shanghai Disney Resort announced today that they are building a brand-new themed land based on the 2016 blockbuster Zootopia.
The second major expansion of the resort, Zootopia Land is going to be the eighth themed land aside after Adventure Isle, Gardens of Imagination, Mickey Avenue, Tomorrowland, Treasure Cove, Fantasyland and Toy Story Land (which made its debut less than a year ago). Even more excitingly, this will be the first ever Zootopia Land anywhere in the world.
The all-new expansion will bring the hit animated film and fan-favorite characters to life. Expect to meet Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde and Flash. Thrilling rides, mesmerizing performances and food and beverage (paw popsicle, maybe?) are also on their way. Thanks to state-of the-art technology, visitors will get to fully immerse themselves in the mammalian metropolis "where anyone can be anything."
Since opening to the public back in June 2016, Shanghai Disney Resort has received tens of millions of visitors.
"We are thrilled to announce the inclusion of the world's first ever Zootopia-themed land," said Bob Chapek, chairman of parks, experiences and consumer products of the Walt Disney Company. "The quick expansion of Shanghai Disney displays our faith and promise in the further development of our company in the Chinese market."
The project is slated to break ground later this year, although the official opening date hasn't been declared. "Hope they won't construct it as slow as Flash moves," joked one netizen on Weibo.
Hop on the train and prepare to "try everything"
