This Sunday, the 2018 Shanghai International Marathon will have the city abuzz, and while the participants are pounding the pavement, selected roads across the downtown area will be closed for the race.
On November 18, from midnight until 7.45am, the area near the marathon's starting point, including Dianchi Lu, Beijing Dong Lu, Nanjing Dong Lu, Nan Suzhou Lu, Hankou Lu and Jiujiang Lu will be inaccessible for all vehicles.

In addition, roads near the area, Jiangxi Zhong Lu and Zhongshan Dongyi Lu, will also close on Sunday from 5am to 7am and 5am to 7.45am, respectively.

Vehicles will also be unable to enter Yan'an Dong Lu and Yandang Lu this Sunday, as they will be closed from 6.30am to 7.45am and 6.30am to 8.30am.

Apart from the abovementioned roads, all routes where the runners pass through will be restricted on Sunday from 7am to 1.30pm. During this time, all vehicles and bikes without an official pass can only enter specific areas, marked with railings. The police have advised that the time and range of the road closures are subject to adjustment according to the circumstance of the event. At the same time, 138 bus routes of the city will be rerouted or suspended.
Attracting 38,000 runners from home and abroad this year, the 2018 Shanghai International Marathon will start from the Bund Bull and end at the Shanghai Stadium through the newly-opened Huangpu Riverside Road. The race will commence at 7am this Sunday.
