We announced this week that Shanghai Disney Resort confirmed 28 April 2018 as the opening date for their new themed attraction, Toy Story Land, however it seems this upgrade will come at a cost to visitors.
It has been reported that by June 2018, the increase in enjoyment will also mean an increase in ticket prices, by as much as 33 percent during weekends and certain holiday periods. This will result in an entry price hike to RMB665 during Lunar New Year and RMB499 for a weekend visit to the park. Weekday tickets will incur a slightly smaller increase to RMB399.
When the gates to Shanghai Disneyland initially opened, many thought the entry price would deter visitors, however with 11 million tourists filling the park during the first year, it showed nothing will keep the masses from Mickey and his friends. Some of this success can be attributed to the initial excitement for the park, seasonal passes and discounts offered throughout the year, so whether this can continue as the novelty wears off is the question.
With more plans for expansion in the future, it is reported that the additional income to the park will improve products and services, which hopefully means a positive step towards the catering available, after the recent ban on bringing any outside food into the park.

So, only time will tell if the new Toy Story Land and the increase in prices can continue to ‘roundup’ the crowds like we have seen over the past 12 months, or whether the looming competition in the Shanghai theme park arena will have success in steering crowds away.
