A couple of days ago, a netizen posted a Weibo, scolding two tourists for harassing employees at Shanghai Disney and it instantly went viral.
According to the Weibo, the two tourists intended to pull the whiskers off Pluto, a costumed character played by a Disney employee. Another staff member who was close by asked them to stop, and he was immediately repaid with cursing and physical violence.
The Weibo was flooded with furious comments. Some obviously sympathized with the staff member who was beaten, a photographer of the Photopass service.
“All of the Photopass working staff at Shanghai Disney are super nice. They not only take fabulous pictures, but also help you relax if you are too nervous to smile. (I) can’t believe they would be treated like that.” -@meiangelhao
This also opened the gate for others to move on to general criticism towards the lack of civilized behavior they have witnessed at Shanghai Disney.
“When I was queuing up for ‘On Ice’, I saw a woman in front of me just let her son pee on the ground.” -@niaobingxue
“I can still remember being cursed and squeezed by some older ladies because they thought we were too tall for them to appreciate the performance. They could have asked us to move first.” -@backtosquareone
It seems this incident with Pluto is not the first time a costumed character has been on the receiving end of poor behavior. Last week, Dale from Chip ‘n ‘Dale was hit on the head by a young girl. The actor was sent to the nearby hospital and diagnosed with a slight concussion.
“I didn’t know it would become that serious,” the tourist answered while laughing, when asked why she would do such a thing. “I thought it was fun.”
Shanghai Disney is supposed to be a wonderland for all who visit, and this type of ‘fun’ is not really what most visitors have in mind when experiencing the happiest place on earth. It’s time to leave the bad behavior at the gate, let the employees do their job, so all visitors can have a magical day!
