The Shanghai Singapore International School XuHui Preschool celebrated the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) with a difference this year. The usual traditional Chinese New Year activities were transformed into different obstacle courses to add an element of sport to the event. A strong feeling of family spirit was in the air, as parents and kids participated eagerly in the races. The tough obstacle courses did not dampen the spirits of the participants: they stirred up a strong determination in each of them to complete the course with their team. Parents and kids worked together to pick up ‘gold ingots’, hang lanterns, reach for ‘hongbaos’ etc. What would Chinese New Year be without the traditional lion and dragon dance? A wonderful performance of the traditional lion and dragon dance, made up of parent volunteers, ended the races on a high note.
Meanwhile at the MinHang campus, both Junior and Senior School got together to mark the Year of the Monkey in a joint celebration. The Gym was packed with spectators, many of them dressed in yellow and red. The talent on display was phenomenal. The school choir sang ‘Auld Lang Syne’ in Chinese, while the senior school students read poetry in 10 different languages and dancers performed a traditional fan dance. Drama students delivered 3 different performances: Golden Year Golden Monkey, The Monkey King and Chinese Cinderella. Pop singer Dike Niuzai performed ‘How Much Love Can Be Repeated’ while the audience waved the glow sticks in the air, creating a wonderful atmosphere. Even the Monkey King made an appearance, wearing a spectacular red and yellow outfit and performing tricks on stage. The spectacle put everyone in a festive spirit, ready to celebrate the upcoming Year of the Monkey.
Xin Nian Kuai Le and happy holidays!
