Already one of the most convenient cities in the world, things are just about to get even better for citizens of Pudong, the local government has announced, reports Shine.
Dubbed '15-minute service circle,' the initiative calls for further development of fundamental facilities in Pudong New Area, so that residents there will be able to reach any of them within 15-minute walking distance, no matter if they reside in prosperous Lujiazui or less-developed countryside like Nanhui and Zhuqiao.

The first phase of the project will tackle the shortage of basic facilities including schools, hospitals, elderly care centers, culture and sports venues. The second phase will focus on infrastructure closely associated with civilians' daily life, such as shopping malls, parks and transit hubs.
Together, there are 36 subdistricts and towns in Pudong. Owning to technologies like big data statistics and artificial intelligence, the government of Pudong New Area has analyzed the current distribution of the facilities and found 522 vacancies. A three-year initiative has been issued so that civilians could enjoy the convenience by the end of 2020.

Once the aforementioned facilities are taken care of, each neighborhood is also encouraged to develop facilities tailor-made for their own local needs. For instance, in Zhangjiang, which hosts an industrial park for high tech companies, libraries and laboratories will be built to satisfy the need of local scientists.
In three years, Pudong will also be home to world's largest planetarium and indoor ski resort.
"When it comes to the development of Pudong, it's not merely about building fancy skyscrapers," emphasizes Weng Zuliang, District Committee Secretary of Pudong New Area. "Small things like a kindergarten or a community cafeteria also matter. Only by giving consideration to both ends can we practice the norm of 'Better city, better life.'"
