The magical time of the year is back. The authentic German Christmas market of BLN Restaurants & Caterings opens its doors from December 7 to 9. Stroll along the festive huts at 555 Shibo Avenue and feel the spirit of Christmas in every sweet smell and song, with every light and smile. The venue is also home of Paulaner Bräuhaus Shanghai @ EXPO and the Ambrosia Teppanyaki Restaurant.
Christmas markets have a long tradition. Their history can be traced back to the late middle ages in the German-speaking part of Europe. They bring light and warmth to the cold and dark season and are a delightful way to begin holiday festivities. Christmas markets light up towns with cheerfulness, laughter, seasonal decorations and gifts as well as good food and drink during the merry season. Today, there are many Christmas markets throughout Germany, and each has its special charm, unique to the community and region.
BLN Restaurants & Caterings’ flagship brand Paulaner is originated in Southern Germany, where Christmas markets are typically called 'Christkindlmarkt' (lit.: Christ child market). There, the 'Christkindl' (meaning Christ child), traditionally portrayed by a local girl with golden locks, appears regularly to greet visitors, sing carols or recite poems during the early evening market hours.
To honor the German Christmas tradition, BLN Restaurants & Caterings’ 12th Christmas market will bring the sweet smell and sounds of a classic Southern German 'Christkindlmarkt' this weekend. Look forward to around 70 carefully-selected vendors offering a unique dining and shopping experience in hand-crafted wooden huts. Attendees can find seasonal items, such as festive Christmas trees, wreaths, ornaments and decoration, selected artisanal produce and handicrafts as well as Christmas gifts, holiday greeting cards and accessories. Moreover, traditional German food like sizzling sausages and hot home-made Glühwein can be enjoyed to keep warm on those cold winter days. A 'Candy Huts' corner with traditional treats such as Belgian waffles, sugar roasted almonds, crepes and gingerbread will put a smile on everyone’s face. The spacious grounds of 555 Shibo Avenue will be once again filled with the alluring smell of traditional delicacies, atmospheric lighting and festive musical sounds.
