In addition to lifting the deposit to use their shared bikes across the country, Mobike has launched its e-bikes to boost the way we travel around the city, said Shine.
The shared e-bike was revealed at the press conference on July 5. Presenting a similar appearance to Mobike’s regular bike, the e-bike weighs 25.5 kilograms (56.2 pounds). Equipped with a world-class battery, it can reach a top speed of 20 kilometers per hour. There is also a phone holder next to the handler for those who need navigation while riding.

“Our latest iteration of the shared products is designed to enhance people’s way of travel,” Gao Shusan, senior director of Mobike, told Shine. “According to our research, citizens tend to use our bikes to cover their trips up to 3 kilometers. With the help of our e-bikes, the number can be extended to 5 kilometers.”

As promising as it seems, we may not spot these e-bikes in Shanghai anytime soon. In the past few years, cities including Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen have banned shared e-bikes due to the safety concerns. Several regulations have been issued to demonstrate the governments' non-support attitude towards the shared e-bikes. “We will use better products to change their mind,” Gao told Sina.
This ban may explain why e-bikes are currently being trialed in Sichuan and Guizhou, and plans for their release in first-tier cities are yet to be announced. Furthermore, the price policy for Mobike’s shared e-bikes is yet to be advised.
