According to the Shanghai Road Administration Bureau, four bridges along the Huangpu River will undergo renovation over the next three months, reported The Paper.
The four bridges, Yangpu, Nanpu, Lupu and Xupu, were constructed between the 1990s and 2000s. As landmarks of the city, despite routine maintenance, the lighting systems are in dire need of an upgrade.
To improve the landscape of the Huangpu River area and prepare the bridges for the upcoming Chinese National Day on October 1 and the China International Import Expo in November, the illumination on the exterior of the four bridges will be revamped.
The new lighting design will match the surrounding landscapes of each bridge. There will be four controlling modes (regular daytime, festivals, significant activities and deep night), each with specific requirements for lighting hours and brightness, to conserve energy.

The construction will be carried out during non-peak hours and nighttime, to ensure minimum interference to traffic.
Introduced by the Shanghai Road Administration Bureau, the upgrading is set to wrap up in September. By then, the all-new illumination system will shine brightly around the Huangpu River area.
