At least two students have reportedly died after a stabbing outside a Shanghai primary school earlier this morning.
According to an official police statement, the incident took place just outside Shanghai World Foreign Language Primary School on Pubei Lu in south Xuhui district at around 11.30am this morning. A man wielding a knife allegedly stabbed three male pupils, two of whom later died, according to the reports. An adult woman was also stabbed. The two surviving victims are said to be in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspected attacker, a 29-year-old man surnamed Huang, was subdued by police, according to the official police statement. Videos circulating on Chinese social media platforms allegedly showed the immediate aftermath of the incident, revealing police holding down a man with his hands and legs tied up. One video also showed bloodied victims lying on the sidewalk while surrounded by bystanders.

The situation is currently under investigation. According to the police statement, Huang was unemployed and arrived in Shanghai in early June. The statement also added that he "sought revenge on society."
