Dazhong taxi has put together a special squad to ensure the safety of female passengers at night in Shanghai, as reported by Shine.
The brigade, named ‘Rose Shield,’ is composed of approximately 200 taxis, and all of its drivers have an unblemished driving record for at least three years. To distinguish from regular taxis, every cab in the ‘Rose Shield’ squad has a red ribbon tied to the rear-view mirror.

Women can order one of these cabs from 10pm to 5am via the Dazhong app or by phoning the hotline 96822. “Our drivers will do anything possible to ensure passenger security,” Wang Dong, director of the Dazhong client service center, told Netease. “For instance, if the destination is too dark, the driver will provide necessary illumination through flashlight or high beam.” Also, females can dial the emergency line 66053950 in times of distress.
Although the squad has been founded to ensure a safer ride for women, the taxis are available for both male and female passengers. In other words, the drivers won’t turn down male commuters as long as they’re not reserved.
