Last weekend, Brazilian soccer legend Ronaldo de Lima graced Shanghai for two events around the city, where soccer-loving fans attended in droves. After making an appearance at Kerry Parkside Mall Pudong on Saturday, Ronaldo participated in a soccer clinic on Sunday, where 100 children were lucky enough to learn from the pro. Our three Urban Family winners were honored to witness his famous moves and participate in the two-hour training session.
Courtesy of King Bally EG and Shanghai-based Star Coaching (China) Ltd, Ronaldo, one of the best players in the world during the nineties and into the new millennium, came to enthrall fans of Shanghai.
Being a two-time World Cup winner and three-time FIFA World Player of the Year, Ronaldo is without a doubt a magnet for soccer fans. Despite the rain, fans and media made it to the forecourt at Kerry Parkside to see their idol at a live appearance. Towards the end of the meet-and-greet, he took a group photo with his Shanghai fans to record the exciting moment.
Although severe knee injuries in 2011 led to his retirement at the age of 34, his fan base continues to thrive, which was evident at his soccer clinic on Sunday. When Ronaldo arrived at Dulwich College Shanghai, Pudong, he was warmly welcomed by a group of young fans, future soccer stars and of course, their parents who grew up watching the legend in action. Among them were our three lucky Urban Family readers, one of which came all the way from Hangzhou to join the clinic and receive his icon’s autograph.
As expected, Ronaldo displayed his nimble dribbling as well as renowned techniques and tricks while playing with the young soccer enthusiasts. Although the kids on the field could have played for many more hours, we are sure all who joined will hold on to the experience as a lasting and inspirational memory.
