Yesterday, authorities reported rides at both Shanghai's Happy Valley theme park and the Jinjiang Amusement Park are safe for riders.
The inspection for amusement park safety comes after a tragic event at Zhaohua Park in Chongqing, which resulted in the death of a 13-year old girl. After her seat belt broke she was thrown into the air from a ride called "Space Travel" – an enormous wheel that rotates vertically and spins in 360 degree motions simultaneously.
Since then, China has shut down all "Space Travel" rides (a total of around 65) in order to control safety through maintenance and further management. Similar rides at both of Shanghai's local parks have been tested and confirmed safe however, regulators are saying the rides can only operate if all safety bars are securly locked.
The teenager's parents have accepted RMB870,000 in compensation from the park while the case is still being investigated.
