Dr. Shimi Kang is coming to Shanghai on Monday, November 16th to give a book talk on her widely renowned book The Dolphin Parent. It was placed on the #1 National Best Seller list in the USA and has been featured in media such as TIME Magazine, NPR, the Washington Post, CBC National News, and many more!
In this inspiring book, Dr. Shimi Kang provides a guide to the art and science of inspiring children to develop their own internal drive and a lifelong love of learning. Drawing on the latest neuroscience research, Dr. Kang shows why pushy “ tiger parents ” and permissive “ jellyfish parents“ actually hinder self-motivation. She proposes a powerful new parenting model : the intelligent, joyful, playful, highly social dolphin. Dolphin parents focus on maintaining balance in their children’s lives to gently yet authoritatively guide them toward lasting success.
Dr. Kang is currently the Medical Director of Child and Youth Mental Health for Vancouver, a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia. She has received six international awards including the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry Research Award, and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for her years of outstanding community service. She is also mother of 3 children!
