Heads up, Shanghai residents: you might want to keep your passport handy over the next few weeks.
Ahead of the first ever China International Import Expo, which takes place November 5 to 10, we've been hearing of increased random identification checks at Metro stations across town.
Our advice: keep your passport (or a photo of your passport) on hand in case you're asked to provide ID. Note that this isn't a new policy, but rather an existing one that's being enforced more consistently ahead of the expo.
In preparation for the event, Shanghai police are also said to be ramping up security measures at transportation hubs across the city. That includes random checks for inbound passengers to Shanghai at train stations and extra inspections at the city's airports.
