Whether it's the sudden drop in temperature or the sweet smell of osmanthus, several signs have recently hinted at the arrival of autumn. And now, it's official. The Shanghai Meteorological Bureau announced that Shanghai entered autumn on October 5, reports The Paper.
According to the bureau, the meteorological definition of autumn requires the average temperature of the city to sit below 22 degrees Celsius (71.6 degrees Fahrenheit) for five consecutive days. This was achieved on Tuesday, which makes October 5 the first day of autumn for 2018.

This year, the arrival of the autumn is slightly earlier than that of 2017, as last year we waited another week to get into the fall mood. That being said, this year's summer was the same duration as last year with a day count of 146 days, 12 days longer than the average length.
Although we once again enjoyed a relatively long summer, it wasn't as scorching and sizzling compared to previous years, thanks to the frequent typhoons. Last year, we had 34 days with temperature soaring over 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit), while there were only 18 days this year. Moreover, the highest temperature of the hottest day this summer reached a mere 37.7 degrees Celsius (99.9 degrees Fahrenheit), much more bearable than the 40.9 degrees Celsius recorded last year.
Despite another cold front this week, the highest temperatures for the coming days will remain above 20 degrees. Cloudy weather is also on the forecast, which means we may not see the sun for a while. Here's a glimpse of the weather forecast for the following days:

According to history, the autumn season is usually rather short (the average length amounts to 62 days.) So, enjoy the temperate days as they may be fleeting, and before we know it, winter will set in.
