Over 100 British School of Guangzhou students and staff took part in a 24-hour swimathon that lasted from 7am on Friday until 7am on Saturday. Students and staff could enter as an individual or as a team. They were allocated a minimum of a 20-minute slot during this time period and were challenged to see if they could swim the width of the English Channel (35 kilometers) in this time period as a collective. They were encouraged to gain sponsorship, which is going towards funding for FOBISIA sport events for primary, under-13 and under-15 teams. Twenty-eight students stayed overnight on the school field and swam at different time slots all through the night. In total, the participants surpassed the distance of the English Channel in 12 hours. By the end of the 24-hour time period, the collective distance swam was a staggering 80 kilometers. Well done to all involved!
