Who needs Paris when you can spend the afternoon at the Eiffel Tower in Beijing?
Sounds strange, but it exists.
Beijing has it’s very own “World Park”, a miniature park containing the world’s most famous monuments and attractions, with 109 world-famous attractions from 40 different countries. In one day you can check out the pyramids of Egypt, stand as close as you’ll ever get to the White House, walk through the Golden Gate Bridge and have a picnic by Japanese style gardens. You can even go to the Great Wall - the fake one.
Not to mention the array of famous statues like the the Statue of Liberty, the Mermaid of Denmark, the Statue of David, the statue of Venus, and many more. There are even elephants, llamas and camels nearby hanging out in an African themed area.
The park also contains a variety of amusement park rides that I can guarantee your children will love. We tried out a roller coaster that looked pretty dismal from the outside but turned out to be surprisingly fun. There is an “Arctic Zone” ride which sounded pleasant because the day we went it felt like it was about 300 degrees outside. We paid our 10RMB admission fee and arctic cold it was not. It was simply arctic themed, sans air con. You sit in a little cart that pulls you along through a dark room with ‘scary’ baby seals jumping out at you and some eerie music playing with flash lights on small stuffed animals covered in dust. It sort of looks like a ride they decided to keep because they thought, “ehhh, why not?” it ends with a dinosaur-looking creature thrashing his head into your cart. Although it’s not a highlight, children will find it amusing.
They also have golf carts that are 100RMB to rent for one hour. Now these are well worth it since it probably takes around 4 hours to trek through the whole park. Also, golf carts are always fun.
The park literally has everything you can think of, and is an easy getaway to take children on the weekend. It only about took about an hour car ride from downtown.
