Macau’s giant panda Sam Sam, a gift from the mainland to mark the 10th anniversary of the territory’s return to China, died on Sunday from kidney failure.
Sam Sam (Xin Xin in Mandarin) was born in Chengdu in 2008. In 2010 she was sent to Macau. The panda’s name was chosen because it means which means “happiness”.
The zoo where Xin Xin was has been closed until further notice.
