It’s time to get excited or prepare for a lot of begging from the kids, because a LEGOLAND Discovery Center is scheduled to open in Shanghai in the spring of 2016.
Construction will begin some time in the second quarter of 2015 at the Parkside Plaza in Putou District. It is going to be a 3000 square meter indoor playground especially targeted towards families with kids between 3 and 10 years old. Over three million LEGO bricks will be available for visitors’ creative playtime and although the exact content of the park is still unknown, it is expected to follow some of the themes of other LEGOLAND centers around the world, including 4D LEGO viewing experiences, family building workshops, roller coasters and more.
RMB100 million is being put into this project and is one of the recent large scale splurges on child-friendly entertainment around Shanghai – others including the recently opened Hello Kitty theme park in Zhejiang and next year’s Disneyworld in Pudong.
This time it is the investors at UK’s Merlin Entertainment Group Ltd who are paying the bill; the same investment group which operates the Changfeng Ocean World Aquarium and Madame Tussauds in Shanghai as well as 10 other entertainment facilities around Asia.
