A new law has been put into place to ban all profit-led private schools from the 9-year compulsory education system in China.
The National People's Congress held one of their bi-monthly sessions last Monday, where the new law was approved. After being proposed two times previously, the law was finally passed on its third reading.
The law covers primary to junior high school, or children ages four through 14. China's compulsory education is a free system nationwide, which receives funding from the central government.
This new ruling comes on the heels of the Shanghai government placing a ban on international curricula in city schools.
