Last Saturday, May 12, Century Park came alive with a vision of pink and green when over 3,000 runners and walkers assembled for the annual More Than Aware (MTA) Family Fun Run.
In a celebration of proactive prevention and recovery from breast cancer, the Shanghai community came together to undertake the 2 kilometers or 5 kilometer race around the park.
Bright pink and green accessories colored the park, and each participant wrote a wellness goal on the back of their race shirt. Some aspired to “exercise more” or “eat healthier,” while others honored a loved one.
Following an energetic warm-up by a Nike instructor, members of the Shanghai Cancer Recovery Center (SCRC) performed on stage, reminding us that proactive prevention can achieve ongoing wellness.
Next, MTA presented awards for categories such as largest team, and most pink and green team, then all runners danced around to 'Shake it Off' by Taylor Swift.
At 8:30am the 3,000 runners and walkers embarked on their journey around the park. From 8:50am there was a steady stream of participants crossing the finish line, grateful for the fruits and water provided with a smile by MTA volunteers.
As the last runners crossed the line and families enjoyed the end-of-race activities, another successful MTA Family Fun Run came to an end. The Shanghai community once again showed their support for a wonderful cause.
