The clock is ticking towards the New Year and in the spirit of reflecting on the year that has passed and thinking about the changes they wish to make for the future, we asked students from British International School Shanghai, Puxi to tell us their 2018 resolutions.
Ranging from academic achievement, athletics and musical performances to family and enhancing their culinary skills, these resolutions are an eye-opener into the lives of the future generation.
To start us off, Urban Family’s number one resolution – 'Stick to our New Year’s resolutions!'
My New Year’s resolution is to practice running the 1,500 meters every Sunday; my best time is 6 minutes 57 seconds. Also, I will take part in the 2-hour swimming lessons, because I might enjoy it. I will also FaceTime my grandma every Friday because in the summer she told me that she feels like we forget about her when we are not with her so, I told her I would call so she knows I am thinking of her.
-Hannah Smith Mas, Year 7
My New Year’s resolution is to improve my English. I hope I can understand more vocabulary and improve my spelling. When I have a test, I really want to get a high score. Speaking is also very really important too, so I want to develop my spoken English so I do not have to worry if I am in a place where people only speak English.
- Carson Leung, Year 7
My New Year's resolution is to get into the BISS LIONS SWIM TEAM. I want to do this because I love swimming and I am only 0.4 seconds away. To do this I will go to the pool often to work on my backstroke and take. If I do get into the BISS LIONS SWIM TEAM I will be more determined to improve and aim for at least 3 sessions per week.
-Mattia Magni, Year 7
My New Year Resolutions will be: Making friends with native English speaking students and improving my English (grammar, writing, listening and speaking). I am very shy and I find it hard to talk to new people. I really want to develop my English, so that I begin to find the work I am doing easier and can then do harder work at BISS.
- Suhyun Cho, Year 7
My New Year Resolutions will be making new friends, getting better at guitar, Japanese and singing. I want to have more friends to hang out with and have fun. I want to get better at guitar and Japanese because I want to be able to play music freely and be able to understand and speak Japanese. And be able to sing amazingly.
-Xuting Daisy Sun, Year 7
My New Year’s Resolution this year would be to read the whole of my Quantum Physics for dummies book. I am still at a beginner's level at physics and it is one of my favourite topics.
I will read about five pages a day after school so that I can get it done before the end of April and improve my knowledge drastically.
- Curtis Zhou, Year 7
