With UF Readers' Picks WeChat project, Urban Family hopes to relieve life of all the fuss and frantic research and bring back the good old days when the options were valuable and straightforward. UFRP will let you find the best of the best without the hassle.
Now that the weather is slowly turning autumnal, the worst of the summer heat has gone and the temperature is pleasant enough to spend all day outside. As the leaves start to turn, in this cycle of UF Readers’ Picks, we’ll take look at the parks and outdoor spaces you like to visit with your family. Although there are some lovely harder-to-reach forest parks, for now we’ll consider places easily accessible by public transport. And, as everyone knows of People’s Park, Fuxing Park and Century Park, we’ll suggest a couple of other hidden gems you might not think of...
1. Zhongshan Park
Easily accessible by metro line 2, Zhongshan Park is a family friendly option, with plenty of shops and restaurants close by. There’s plenty of kite flyers, dancing aunties and tai-chi practioners to give you something to watch, but it’s also easy to find a quiet corner to just enjoy some greenery. Best of all, you won’t get shouted at for stepping on the grass!
Free of charge, Zhongshan Park, see listing here
2. Liujiazui Central Green Space
Perhaps not one you would initially think of, but Lujiazui’s green space is easily accessible by metro or ferry, and is the perfect antidote to the hectic city life of the surrounding skyscrapers and malls. Small children will love feeding the many fish in the central lake, and families of all ages will enjoy an ice cream or snack in the shadow of the world famous Pudong landscape.
Free of charge, Lujizaui Central Green Space, see listing here
3. Heping Park (Peace Park)
Close to Tongji University, and accessible by the Siping Road stop on metro lines 8 and 10, Heping Park is another of our favorites. With plenty of rockeries, waterfalls and pagodas, and also a children’s play area, it’s a good reason to venture over to Hongkou district and enjoy watching the locals.
10 RMB per adult ticket, children free of charge, Heping Park, see listing here
4. Daning Lingshi Park
Right next to Shanghai Circus World, this is easily accessible by metro line 1. The park is huge, with plenty of green spaces and stroller friendly paths amongst the flower displays, an amusement park, beach and boat rides available if you so wish. It also plays host to the Tulip festival in March every year.
5 RMB entrance usually, 20 RMB during tulip festival, children free, Daning Lingshi Park, see listing here
5. Yuehu Sculpture Park
A short taxi ride away from Songjiang station on metro line 9, this park truly has something for everyone, and plenty of space to run around in. There’s a café and restaurant and plenty of kids activities in addition to thirty or so sculptures, beach, fields and all that outdoor space.
Children 0.8-1.4 meters 50RMB, adults 100 RMB entrance fee, pets with license 30 RMB, Yuehu Sculpture Park, see listing here
