As a new initiative of the SCIS Pudong Mathematics Department, Math Club has been running as an after-school activity every Tuesday, since the beginning of the school year. In addition to tackling math problems and puzzles, students have been preparing for various math competitions.
In November, students wrote the Canadian Senior and Intermediate Mathematics Contests (CSMC and CIMC), developed by the University of Waterloo. The results were quite impressive, with a total of 12 students scoring in the top 25% of all contestants, and on the senior contest, SCIS ranked 18th out of 94 international schools. Wesley You, one of the senior students, scored in the top 30 out of a total of almost 2000 international students!
Students are currently preparing for the American Mathematics Competitions, which will be written in February. In early March, SCIS Pudong is planning to participate in the High School Team Maths Competition, which will be held in Suzhou. Best of luck to all of the young mathematicians!
