Neonatal swimming has become fairly commonplace nowadays. Experts claim that it improves thoracic, lung, bone, muscle, and brain development. During the swimming sessions, babies eject meconium, which accelerates their peripheral blood bilirubin metabolism. This helps reduce physiological jaundice, a yellowish staining of the skin and whites of the eyes in newborns caused by high levels of bilirubin in their blood. Babies swim in warm water and wear a neck float while being monitored closely.
Neonatal swimming is available at HOME Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Shenzhen and VIP Birthing Centre, Clifford Hospital, Elizabeth Hospital and the Women and children’s hospital in Guangzhou. Call for more details.
