Imagine sashaying into a party in your most glamorous frock, your skin shimmering like gold. Well, not like gold, with gold. Golden algae, to be precise, harvested from waters around the Brehat islands, off the coast of Brittany.
This unique species forms the basis for Revive Spa’s Marine Gold Therapy (RMB1,380/180 minutes), which employs products from Germaine de Capuccini. As well as adding an extra veneer of superficial glamour, the golden algae are also imbued with anti-aging properties and function as an effective after-sun treatment.
Once the golden algae cream has been applied, visitors are immersed in a warm water bed, which opens up the pores and elicits more effective absorption. Good for easing back and neck strain, lying in the undulating cocoon feels rather like being gently rocked to sleep in a beach hammock.
Unlike most wraps, the Gold Sun Therapy does not require a rinse off afterwards. Instead, clientele are treated to a full-body massage, followed by the application of further cream to keep the skin shining with health.
If the whole process reminds you rather uncomfortably of Jill Masterson’s death in Goldfinger, never fear: Revive offers equally intriguing body wraps that employ wine, chocolate and coffee. However, for our money there’s nothing quite like strolling down the street in the sun glittering, quite literally, with a golden sheen.
