My, my, hasn’t Tianhe Dong Lu just been a frightful mess for months now? All that street widening has left dreadful dust on our heels and that tunnel-drilling has our poor ears ringing. The last time we braved this mean street, we had all but given up as a rain was lashing us senseless…until we looked up through mascara-smudged eyes, to behold warm lights beckoning from behind glass walls.
We rushed up to the second floor to see: whatever could this beacon be? And oh what delights we found at Lady 7 Café! It is dripping in crystals and twinkling chandeliers, petal pink domes and flower-festooned pillars. We spotted a booth, like a velvet half-moon; it was high-backed and fuchsia, and had bedazzled buttons. We plunked ourselves down and it was soft as a tuffet! This place, we realized was where we should be, and with a sigh of relief, we implored for some tea.
Nothing is ordinary here, not even fruit teas (RMB32). The ginger’s in the teapot, served upon a doily. But the lemon was no mere sliced fruit, it was a sidecar of luscious marmalade, to be silver-spooned in to taste. We sampled some waffles and ice cream, piled high with tropical fruit (RMB46). Soft and warm, these golden flans were made just to suit.
It is a tribute to sugar and spice, but do not misunderstand, for Lady 7 is not just for girls. We came back with some beaus and gave the savory a whirl. The burgers (RMB42) are juicy and escorted by plump fries, the quesadillas (RMB42) and chick- en wings (RMB38) were all a hit with the guys.
But the piece de resistance, the Charming Blueberry (RMB66), this is Lady 7’s most darling confection. You certainly should share this toast box made in heaven. Regardless of gender, it will win their affection. But what’s that on top? An adorable wee chocolate shoe? Well, we agree of course: that part is just for you.
