International kid favorite, Peppa Pig, is now hitting China where the show will be broadcasted on CCTV’s children’s channel, CCTV 14. The loveable animated piglet is predicted by many to be the next big hit for kids in China after the premier of the first episode on June 23. As the show has already been translated into 40 languages in 180 countries, the Peppa Pig brand is now targeting tens of millions of preschool kids in China. Besides the TV show, the Chinese expansion will also include Peppa Pig books in bilingual and local languages, as well as a website featuring local content. Already at 1 billion USD in licensing and merchandising sales, entering China is a huge leap forward for the production. While the broadcast rights are owned by CCYV, the brand’s local licensing agent is PPW, publishing partner is Penguin China and King Bee is the toy licensee. Although the first show aired this week, products are set to launch in July – meaning that Peppa Pig will most likely be everywhere within a few weeks from now!
