China will be in hot water (no pun intended) for this one. The Chinese have unveiled a new official map of the country giving a tad greater ownership of the South China Sea. The map makes it seem like the disputed waters, numerous islets and reefs are in fact national territory.
However, China’s foreign ministry has said that people should not read too much into the issue, stating, ”China’s position on the South China Sea issue is consistent and extremely clear. Our stance has not changed."
Beijing claims about 90 percent of the South China Sea, but parts of the waters are also disputably the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan.
Recently tensions have been high in the regions in recent months, particularly between China, Vietnam and the Philippines.
