Staff at a dog shelter in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province allegedly killed seven newborn puppies in front of the animals' mother and members of the public.
According to a post on Weibo (and graphic photos we're not including here), a worker at the shelter picked up the very young puppies and threw them to the floor, killing them. The dogs' mother was only a few yards away in a cage.
The case has attracted outrage online, coming as it did in the wake of news that chengguan in Beijing had been killing people's dogs in front of them if they were unable to provide paperwork on the spot.
