You can buy anything in China. On the ever popular online shopping website taobao.com you can hire a boyfriend to meet and calm your “why don’t you have a boyfriend yet” parents, pay to punch someone in the stomach to let out your anger and frustration, or pay someone to endure your worst insults (cheapest rate: 1RMB).
The latest? Pay a foreigner to report a crime on your behalf.
“According to Weibo, a user who claims to be an advertising company employee, caught the attention of a few thousand netizens on Oct. 17 when he shared photographs of two crudely made advertisements. Based on information available on the photo, the second advertisement was posted on the streets of Hefei, the capital of impoverished Anhui province. (It is not clear where the first advertisement was posted.)
“Foreigner will report crimes for you: Starting at 200 RMB [about $33] per month — Retrieve lost items — 100 percent of cases solved.”
Apparently the Chinese police are likely to take foreigners complaints more seriously and will do what they can to solve them.
However, it is more likely to work depending on:
- The location
- How rare foreigners in that are
- How polite they are
- That particular officers taste (or distaste) towards foreigners.
