A series of sex education videos have recently gone viral on the the Chinese internet. “Where Do Babies Come From?” and “Why Are Boys Different from Girls?” have grabbed the attention of parents trying to find ways to break the awkward sex talk to their kids. These videos have become the most popular search on baidu and drawn over one million views on youku. Another popular, and rather grim video is “How Minors Can Prevent Molestation” due to problems revolving around molestation and children being unaware of how to deal with it. Some children did not know how to protect themselves when being assaulted and some of the victims are unaware they are being sexually assaulted.
China currently seriously lacks in educating children about sex. Abortion rates in teenagers have risen and the problem stems with the lack of knowledge about sex from a young age. Presently only about 10 in 180,000 primary schools and about 500 in 500,000 secondary schools were providing sex education in China.
