The Latest show to be banned in China is the nerdirific sitcom, ”The Big Bang Theory”.
Currently ”The Good Wife," "NCIS" and "The Practice” are 3 others hit-TV shows that have been banned in the nation. How was the political drama "House of Cards" managed to sneak by Chinese censorship?
It’s quite normal for the Chinese government to ban various shows online, but this usually occurs when the programs are deemed to be too violent or infringe on copyright laws. The Big Bang Theory does’t seem to cross any of these lines, leaving fans baffled over the ban.
"Give me back Sheldon," became popular on Chinese social media sites as an outcry against the streaming ban.
Chuck Lorre, the creator of the show shared his thoughts on the ban "I like to think they took notes that were later used to formulate an official document that detailed the corrosive cultural effects caused by the shenanigans of Sheldon, Leonard, Penny, Wolowitz, Koothrappali, Amy and Bernadette," Lorre writes. "I like to think that during these screenings one of them laughed out loud and was promptly sent to a re-education camp on the outskirts of Urumqi. I like to think one of them was reassured by how often the characters on the show eat Chinese takeout. I like to think there’s a Chinese word for shenanigans."
Clearly he’s not too upset over the ban.
