A recent survey, involving over 35,500 single Chinese females offer interesting insight on new age attitudes towards men and marriage.
A little over half the women surveyed, 51%, say simply getting married as their goal. However, they would rather be single than be with a man that has these 3 traits: being involved in “ambiguous” love affairs, or in other words, cheating, being all talk and no action, and stinginess. Although these seem rather understandable to most women globally, what sets this survey apart is the type of man single Chinese ladies avoid.
The least popular type of men are "unassuming" computer programmers, handsome freelancers and last but not least the “phoenix man”. A phoenix man is one who rose from the ashes, grew up in a poor family, put himself through school and was expected to change the fate of his family. A phoenix man may show strength and ambition but the reason they are the least popular to Chinese women is because typically these type of men tend to be “penny pinchers” due to their poor past, they fear failure, may experience inferiority complex and will inevitably prioritize his extended family over his own wife and children. Leaving family resources scarce.
